Almost all brand of printers can be converted into continuous ink system (CIS) but not all printers work good with CIS. Built-in heads vs. Disposable cartridgesWhich printer works best with continuous ink system? Generally there are two types of printers, one that uses disposable cartridges and one that has a built in head. the ones with built in heads like Epson or Brother are durable simply because the heads of the printers are fixed and are not disposable. The heads come with the printers and you just have to take good care of it for it to last longer. The ones with disposable cartridges like some models of HP and some models of Canon has its heads built in the disposable cartridges. When the cartridges gets worn out, you will have to replace the cartridges. Converting these kind of printers will definitely extend the life of the cartridges to its maximum but it will be replaced when printing quality degrades. There are some pros and cons to both kinds of printers though. With the fixed heads, although durable but if it gets clogged and it can not be cleaned, you will replace the whole printer instead. With the disposable cartridges, if the heads get clogged, you just have to buy the cartridge and not replace the whole printer. The cost of the disposable cartridges however is almost equivalent to that of the printer so if both the black and the color gets worn out, you are better off replacing the whole printer. So which is which? If speed is not too much important, we recommend the fixed head printers like Epson and Brother. If speed and quality is priority, we recommend Canon printers. Hp on the other hand has a shorter cartridge life. In order of preference by customers, we find Epson and Canon the top two choice for conversion. Brother comes in second and HP third.
